The Appaloosa
The appaloosa breed is also native of the Northwest United States.
These horses, whose main particularity is to have a spotted colour are, as the Quarter and Paint horses come from European settlers. The horses colors have always been appreciated by the Indian people and this race has traditionally been selected by the Nez Perce Indians settled near the river Palouze. Hence the name of appaloosa.
The Nez Perce tribe lost most of his horses race in 1877 and then experienced a decline in several decades, surviving only thanks to the tenacity of a few farmers, until the creation of a studbook in 1938. Today, the appaloosa is one of the most popular breeds in the United States, and has been named the official horse of Idaho in 1975. Since the mid-twentieth century many horses crossed with Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds have been made.
It was not until 1997 that the appaloosa is recognized in France by the National Stud. The appaloosa has influenced many other breeds of horses, including horses manners.
Today farmers prefer the Nez Perce name or Palouse Horse Nez Perce Horse for horse from their farms
